Reporting Changes for 2017
Co-curricular departments have begun working toward a comprehensive assessment reporting cycle, in line with best practices in student learning outcomes assessment. In 2015, co-curricular departments developed a complete set of student learning outcomes aligned with their program mission and a curriculum map that visually represented the learning opportunities offered through their departments. In 2016, programs developed an assessment plan.
Building on that work, departments will be completing an assessment update for the student learning outcomes designated in their plan.
Assessment Update Resources

The Handbook is in two parts; Part 1 explains the steps in the assessment process, including how to write SLOs, select methods and analyze results. Part 2 outlines the reporting process here at YSU.

Co-Curricular Departmental Student Learning Outcomes, Learning Opportunity Maps, and Assessment Plans
In addition to being in the Co-Curricular Assessment Handbook, these resources were used in 2015-2016 to develop co-curricular student learning outcomes, learning opportunity maps, and assessment plans. Please contact the Office of Assessment if your department needs to complete these 2015 and/or 2016 reporting requirements.
Student Learning Outcomes: Departments develop a set of SLOs that represent the overall learning goals for each department, similar to the way that academic programs have a set of (usually) 3-6 learning outcomes for students upon completion of a course of study. This approach will allow departments to strongly link assessment efforts to their department and unit missions. Typically, departments would then cycle through the outcomes on a multi-year cycle, planned in advance.

Learning Opportunity Maps: A learning opportunity map links SLOs to programs, services, and interventions the department uses to facilitate learning in the SLO areas. The aim is to promote alignment between the activities offered and the core learning goals of the department. If you have not had experience completing a curriculum map before, scheduling a short training session with our office is helpful.

Assessment Plan: Building on the development of SLOs and a Learning Oppotunity Map, departments developed an assessment plan for all their student learning outcomes. A comprehensive assessment plan enables greater integration of assessment into departmental activities and assist in strategic planning.
