The Skating Club of YSU is a club sport organization that allows figure skaters the opportunity to compete at United States Figure Skating Association sanctioned events in the Midwestern Region. It also allows students not interested in competing the opportunity to learn to skate or continue to skate with athletes that share their common interests.
The purpose of this organization is to promote student awareness of ice skating in the Mahoning Valley and to provide students with the opportunity to maintain a fit and active lifestyle through figure skating. The organization is also meant to encourage and cultivate a spirit of teamwork amongst skaters, as well as the instruction, practice, and advancement of the members in ice skating. Finally, the Skating Club of YSU allows students to compete on behalf of Youngstown State University at United States Figure Skating Association sanctioned events in the Midwestern Intercollegiate region.
Teams in the Midwestern region include The University of Michigan, Ohio State, Miami of Ohio University, and Adrian University, the only school in the United States where figure skating is a varsity sport. Despite this high caliber of competition, the Skating Club has experienced great success in its last three years. This includes multiple medals in individual events, a team second place finish, and a team first place finish!
Now boasting its largest competitive team ever, the Skating Club is ready to start its fourth competitive season and do better than ever before!
