A new partnership between Youngstown State University (YSU) and Top Hat Marketplace (THM) has recently been launched to expand access to Open Educational Resources (OER) and reduce textbook costs for students. YSU has set a goal to reduce textbook costs by $200,000 for students by August 2019.
This partnership gives YSU faculty the opportunity to explore 20,000+ OER in the Top Hat Marketplace, which includes content from sources including OpenStax, Saylor, and more. Course materials and Top Hat Textbooks can be customized with multimedia content and embedded questions to assess students’ progress.
THM will provide one-on-one support to help faculty find quality resources already available in the Top Hat platform, and they will schedule on-campus sessions to further demonstrate their services
Faculty will receive $750 for each course converted to open resources. If departments choose to adopt OER materials, $1500 will be awarded to the department as a whole.
If you are interested in participating in this initiative and would like to review a demonstration, please fill out the Faculty Request for More Information form.
