Mattresses in our residence halls are extra-long twin (36”X80”). The Residence Hall Association has partnered with Residence Hall Linens to provide our students with a convenient, affordable way to purchase extra-long sheets and bedding items, as well as other campus-living essentials. All YSU parking lots require a parking permit through University Parking Services. Housing residents will receive a swipe card, which allows access to the resident only lots near the residence halls.
Yes, Guests must be, at minimum, 16 years old and must present a valid photo I.D. Visitors and guests may visit in rooms, suites, apartments, corridors, floor lounges, study lounges, or the basement during guest hours and only when accompanied by the host resident. The host must accompany all guests at all times.
Guest privileges are in effect during the following hours:
24 hours (with a maximum of 3 nights in any 7 day period).
A Resident Assistant, more frequently called an RA, is a full-time student, and part-time employee of Housing & Residence Life. An RA lives on each floor, and is there to help residents become familiar with YSU, get to know each other, and ensure that members of the community respects each other and follow the policies of Housing & Residence Life. RAs plan floor activities, work at the front desk, and rotate in an on-call schedule to respond to any emergencies or disturbances in the residence hall. Don’t hesitate to ask an RA any questions you may have about YSU or Housing.
All residence halls have wireless capabilities in rooms, lounges, and hallways. In addition, each room also has an Ethernet port for each student to connect to the internet. Each resident is assigned a Wi-Fi password that can be used to connect to the internet, add other devices to the network such as video game systems, smart tvs, and other streaming devices.
In order to live in Cafaro House, you must be a member of the University’s Honor College.
Though the residence halls close over winter and spring breaks, residents are permitted to keep their belongings in their room. However, it is important that residents take everything that they will need during those breaks with them, as access into the buildings will not be permitted. Residents must remove all their belongings from their rooms after the Spring semester.

Resident Assistants live on each floor of each house to help out with roommate problems and other issues that arise during the year. If you are unsure about how to confront your roommate about any concerns you have, chat with your RA for some suggestions about how to handle the situation. RAs can help mediate a conflict, or can solicit the help of a Housing Coordinator to help smooth out the situation.
Each house has laundry facilities available in its basement. There is no cost to do laundry if you live in university managed houses.
Housing fees are billed by semester and are charged to your YSU student account. You can check the balance on your student account at any time by logging on to your YSU Portal.
Once housing fees have been charged to your YSU student account you pay them the same way you would pay for your tuition and fees. You can make payments online through your YSU Portal or at the payment windows at Student Accounts in Meshel Hall. Financial Aid may help pay for the cost of Housing, but please be aware that Financial Aid is applied to your tuition and fees first and then if any aid remains it will be applied to your Housing fees. If you plan on using Financial Aid to help pay for your Housing fees, please be sure that you have enough aid to cover tuition, fees and Housing before sign up to live in the residence halls.
Although there is no payment plan specific for Housing fees, you can enroll in the University Payment Plan through the Office of Student Accounts and University Receivables to pay the balance on your Student Account. There is a nominal fee to participate in the payment plan. Payments not made by the established due dates will result in late fees being applied to your student account.
Yes, unless you can demonstrate how you will be paying your Housing fees without the use of Financial Aid, you absolutely should have your FAFSA complete before signing up for Housing.
The Office of Housing & Residence Life tracks all payments made towards Housing fees. If we determine your fees are not being paid we will contact you to discuss the issue and see if there is any way we can help you. If we cannot help you and we have exhausted all methods of payment, you will be asked to leave University Housing.
Yes! Break Housing is offered during Winter Break (from mid-December to mid-January), Spring Break (one week in mid-March) and Summer Break (one week between end of spring semester and start of summer session in May). There is an additional charge for Break Housing and a special Break Housing Request must be submitted to the Office of Housing & Residence Life by established deadlines. Only one residence hall is open so students may be relocated. Please note that limited dining options and limited visitation privileges are in effect during Break Housing. For additional information, please call the Office of Housing & Residence Life at 330-941-3547.
The application for the Housing Grant is available on the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships web site. Applicants must have a completed FAFSA. Please check the Financial Aid web site for deadlines and application information. The Office of Housing & Residence Life does not oversee the application for or the awarding of the housing grant.
