How does the Office of Housing & Residence Life communicate with applicants?
The Office of Housing & Residence Life will email students at their YSU student email account. It’s important for students to be checking their YSU student email account on a regular basis.
How do I apply for on campus housing for the Academic Year 2017-2018 or for Summer 2017?
The housing application is available via your MyYSU portal, under the “University Housing Application” link.

Do I need to pay the $200 deposit if I am on scholarship or have a housing scholarship?
Yes, all students, regardless of scholarship or aid, must pay the security deposit via the Housing Application portal. This deposit is either refunded to you at the end of your contract (pending any damages to your room) or rolled into your next housing contract.
Do I need to pay a $200 housing deposit for both my Academic Year and Summer applications?
No, you only have to pay the deposit once. To bypass the deposit step on the summer application, you will need to contact the Office of Housing & Residence Life after you paid your academic year deposit and after you started your summer application. The residence life staff will assign your deposit to the summer term and your summer deposit will then roll-over as your academic year deposit. Can I choose a roommate?
The roommate step in the Academic Year application will open on a specific date. This date will be communicated to all applicants via email. Once open, you can browse, request and accept another student as an approved roommate. You are not required to match up with a roommate prior to selecting a room. Confirmed roommates will have the ability to assign each other during the Room Search step of the application.
Can I choose my own room?
Yes, the Room Search step will open on a specific date. This date will be communicated to all applicants via email. Students will access this step based upon your Room Selection Time-Slot. Your Room Selection Time-Slot is the day and time the Room Search Step is available to you. These Time-Slots are given to new applicants based on the date of the received housing deposit.
When can I move in for Fall 2017?
Move-In for new students will be on Saturday, August 19, 2017. More information will be emailed to students during the summer.
When can I move in for Summer Full, Summer I or Summer II?
Summer move in and out days are as follows:
