St. Patrick’s Day Madness
On Thursday, March 17th, 2016, the Office of Housing & Residence Life collaborated with the Kilcawley Center Staff to hold the first St. Patrick’s Day Madness program in The Hub. Students and guests were treated to Live Streaming games of the 2016 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, a variety of free food, Bracket Challenge and other fun prize giveaways! Housing residents that walked away with prizes that day were Alisa Bussey-Temple (Fandango Movie Basket), Diana Bodrogi-Podoaba (Kennywood Tickets), Chania Sturgill (Reebok Gift Basket) and Stephen Brian Fisher (Reebok Gift Basket).
Graduate Assistant Intern Hiring Announcement
The Office of Housing & Residence Life is happy to welcome Kelsey Wise to our professional staff team as our newest Residential Education Graduate Assistant Intern. Kelsey, a recent graduate of Thiel College, will be pursuing her Master’s Degree in College Counseling/Student Affairs. She’s very excited to be part of our team and work with the residents living on campus!

Caitlin, a recent graduate of Youngstown State University, has been a Resident Assistant for us since 2013 and will be pursuing her Master’s Degree in School Counseling. Caitlin is excited to join our team and continue working with our students living in the residence halls!

The Housing & Residence Life professional staff has worked since November to recruit and hire our next class of Resident Assistants (RAs). YSU Presents Federal Frenzy
On Saturday April 23rd 2016, from 2 PM to 11 PM, downtown Youngstown will be home to the second annual FEDERAL FRENZY Music and Arts Festival. This FREE event, presented by YSU Penguin Productions and the City of Youngstown, features an outdoor main stage with headlining act, Reel Big Fish. Partnering venues, including Downtown Circle, The Federal, Friends Specialty/So Smooth, O’Donold’s Irish Pub & Grill, and Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts will host a number of local and regional acts including Chicago Jazz singer Lili K, Cleveland based blues-rock band Thaddeus Anna Greene, and local favorite JD Eicher and the Goodnights. 18 YSU student and faculty bands will also take the stage at these partnering venues throughout the event. If you are taking classes this summer and need Summer Housing, please fill out a housing application in the Housing portal for the correct summer term. Students will need to complete their application by April 29th to be given a housing assignment for Summer 1 or Summer Full.
Residence Halls Close
Cafaro, Lyden, Wick, and Weller House close on Saturday, May 7th at 12:00pm. Kilcawley House will close on Friday, May 6th due to Commencement. Residents must check out with and RA within 24 hours of your last final. See your RA beginning Monday, April 25th to ensure a day and time for your check-out! All residents must check out of the residence halls with an RA.
Finals Week – 24 hour quiet hours
24-hour quiet hours are in effect starting Friday, April 29, 2016. Signs will be posted in your building; if you have questions on quiet hours ask an RA or your Housing Coordinator. Quiet hours are in effect through the end of the day Friday, May 6, 2016 in all residence halls.
$200 Security Deposit
Security deposits will roll over from this year to next for residents who have renewed a space for 2016-2017 Academic Year. If you have not yet applied for next year and want to roll your current security deposit over to the 2016-2017 Academic Year, go to the ‘University Housing Application’ and sign up before the end of April.
Current residents who have not signed a housing contract for 2016-2017 can expect to see their security deposit released to their student account in early June.
*If you are an international student please stop in the Office of Housing and Residence Life before Friday, April 22, 2016 to discuss how your security deposit will be returned.
Resident mail does NOT get forwarded when the residence halls close. All mail, other than magazines that get recycled, will be returned to sender. Ensure you change your address for any important mail!
If a student needs break housing, between the end of Spring semester and the start of the Summer semester, they can complete the Housing During University Break Request form by April 29th. There is a charge of $26 a night for up to three nights. Any stay over three nights a student is charged the weekly rate of $205.
Your meal plan will expire at Noon on Saturday, May 7th. There are no refunds for unused Pete’s Points or Flex Dollars
