Dear University Community,
Youngstown State University places a high priority on the safety of its students and staff. To assure you of the best possible protection, the University employs a highly trained campus police force supported by the latest in crime-prevention education and technology. Whether you are on the YSU campus as a student, a visitor, an employee or faculty member, you can be confident that our police department is working to keep you safe.
We welcome your suggestions on how to make YSU an even safer community. To share your ideas with a public safety representative, call the Department at 330-941-3527. The YSU Police are here to serve you twenty-four hours a day.
With a student enrollment of over 13,000, and a faculty and staff of over 1,100, Youngstown State University is, in itself, a sizeable community. That University is, in turn, a part of the Mahoning Valley community of over 600,000 residents.
We can't fight crime if we don't know about it-it's that simple. If you spot anything out of the ordinary on campus, if you think you're being followed, if someone has tampered with your locker- report it to the YSU Police. If you've been sexually assaulted-by a stranger or by someone you know-contact the YSU Police immediately. The sooner you report any crime, the better chance we have of catching the suspect.
Shawn V. Varso, Chief
Youngstown State University Police Dept.
