Mike Hripko, Associate Vice President for Research has previously served as Deputy Director of Workforce and Educational Outreach at America Makes. In this role, he was responsible for developing and coalescing a national workforce and education strategy in additive manufacturing. Prior to working for America Makes, he served as Director for Research and Technology-Based Economic Development for the Youngstown State University College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Here he provided support for several industry, government, and academic collaborations resulting in new and expanded programs, technology-based research, and regional economic development. Hripko also served for 31 years at Delphi Packard Electric Systems, where he established and maintained a pricing strategy for a $1 billion global business. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Dayton, an M.S. in Industrial Engineering (Operations Research) from the University of Iowa, and an M.B.A. from Kent State University. Andrew Shepard-Smith, Director of Research Services, joined the Office of Research Services in September 2015. His experiences in research administration are broad, including proposal development, grant management, and Federal regulatory compliance. He is a regular guest speaker on the topic of grant fraud and waste, as well as the regulations in 2 CFR 200 and 34 CFR 74-99. Ashley R. Riggleman, Assistant Director of Research Services, joined the Office of Research Services in April 2017. She has eight years of experience working in sponsored projects in higher education. She oversees research technologies, assists with pre-award administration including proposal creation and submission, and reporting. Gary Clark, Grants Coordinator, is a graduate of YSU’s Criminal Justice program. He was employed 28 years in law enforcement, both in fieldwork and administration. Following his law enforcement service, Clark was appointed as a city administrator, where he served for over 10 years. Clark brings to YSU a wealth of experience in not only writing grant proposals but administering them as well, including grant awards for economic development, law enforcement, and operational grants (including awards from federal, state, local, business/industry, and private sources).
