Advisement and Registration:
Academic advisement and registration are important parts of the first-year student orientation and will be conducted in individual or group sessions according to each academic college. During the advising sessions, an advisor will explain University and program requirements and review courses to take during your first semester. Academic advisement is a "two-way street" and an opportunity for you to ask questions and discuss various options with an advisor. Please plan to be an active participant in your advising session. Since the information you will receive in the sessions prior to your advisement session is very important, you will not be permitted to register unless you attend all sessions scheduled during the orientation program.
Academic advisement and registration are not part of the Transfer Student Orientation (TSO) program. Transfer students receive a letter from the University Registrar stating their date of registration and academic college for advisement.
Paying Your Bill:
Students may pay their YSU bill online online through the MyYSU portal. The payment options are credit card, debit card, and electronic check. If a student is paying with a credit or debit card, there is a 2.75% convenience fee for each transaction.
Follow these instructions to pay your bill.
If you are interested in on-campus housing, applications are available online through the Office of Housing and Residence Life, or you may pick up an application in their office located on the first floor of Kilcawley House. For further information regarding on/off campus housing and residence life call (330) 941-3547.

Based on review of a student's ACT or SAT scores, all first-time, first-year students attending orientation may be required to take the COMPASS Mathematical Test (CMT), the English Composition Placement Test (CPT) and/or COMPASS Reading Test (CRT) before advisement and registration. Please refer to your SOAR invitation for your requirements.
The results of these tests will allow our academic advisors to place you in the appropriate English, Reading, and Mathematics courses. You should also be aware that certain majors will require Foreign Language coursework; students may opt to fulfill the Foreign Language requirement or place into an intermediate level course by taking the Foreign Language Placement Test (FLPT).
For your convenience, the placements test are offered on several dates prior to the orientation programs. If you do not complete these tests prior to your orientation program, you will not be permitted to register for classes. In addition, you will be required to take the CPT, CMT and/or CRT before the end of your first semester at YSU. If you are unable to attend your scheduled placement testing date or if you have special needs and require accommodations to take the tests, email email@example.com or contact Comprehensive Testing Services at (330) 941-1343 or (330) 941-1344.
If you require special accommodations for test-taking, contact CSP Disability Services at (330) 941-1372.
If you have a disability that will require special accommodations for test-taking or if you are a student with a documented physical, psychological, and/or learning disability (permanent or temporary), in order to receive educational modifications, you are required to register with the Center for Student Progress, Disability Services so that your disability may be accommodated. For further information call (330) 941-1372 or (330) 941-1534 (TTD).
If you or your guest require special accommodations (hearing, mobility, reserved parking) for the day you attend orientation, contact First Year Student Services at (330) 941-2131, or email firstname.lastname@example.org prior to that date so that the appropriate arrangements can be made for your session.
