Admitted International Students/Pre-Arrival Information
Congratulations on your admission to Youngstown State University! Below you will find information that will assist you as you prepare to leave your country and arrive in Youngstown to begin your academic life at YSU. Everyone at the International Programs Office is looking forward to welcoming you to campus at orientation!
International Orientation will be held August 13-17 and is mandatory for all F-1 and J-1 students. The orientation program is designed to welcome students to YSU and help make your transition to campus as smooth and successful as possible. During the orientation program, we will be presenting key information on immigration matters, health insurance, campus resources and more. If necessary, you will take your placement tests and all students will register for classes.

Questions for current students? Email one of our Orientation Leaders. This is a group of current international students who are happy to answer any questions you may have about life as a YSU student.
Refer to Airport Pick-up and Transportation for more information about the free pick-up or if you are arriving on other dates.
It is mandatory that you either provide proof that you have had a recent negative TB (tuberculosis) test or that you have a test once you arrive at Youngstown State University.
Please see the Student Health website for a memo from the doctor on immunizations.
It is recommended, but not mandatory, that you get vaccinations for:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- T dp (Tetanus and diphtheria)
- Hepatitis B series
- Chicken pox vaccine
If you will live on campus, you will be required to inform the University of your meningococcal and Hepatitis B vaccination status. This is a state law of Ohio.
TUITION & FEES:
Tuition and fees are calculated after you are registered for classes. Upon registration, an invoice will be sent to your YSU email account. You will be responsible for paying that invoice soon after receipt. The preferred method of payment by YSU is via an international wire transfer. YSU uses “Flywire” for this process. This way, students will not need to travel with a check. Information on flywire can be found on the YSU Bursar’s website. If you wish to bring a bank draft, use the tuition estimator for an estimate of your tuition costs. NOTE: The actual cost of tuition may vary depending on how many credits you register for an lab fees. You must be prepared to pay the difference upon arrival to campus and course registration.

You must make every effort possible to arrive in Youngstown in time for orientation on August 13, 2018. Classes for the fall semester at Youngstown State University begin Wednesday, August 22, 2018. If you have not reported to the International Programs Office at Youngstown State University by August 21, 2018 your admission to YSU will be deferred to the Spring 2019 term. Your I-20 start date will also be deferred and you cannot use your YSU I-20 to enter the U.S. after August 21st. In this case, you will be required to submit new financial documents and must follow the steps to have a new I-20 sent to you for the spring term.
